Our presenter is Andy Hamernik, USDA Agricultural Science Research Technician at the UW’s Jansky Lab at 525 Walnut Street in Madison. The Jansky lab is engaged in a project to breed a better potato. The main emphasis of the breeding program is to do germ plasma enhancement utilizing the 100 wild potato species that exist, giving the common potato disease and pest resistance, as well as other quality characteristics. The objective is to produce a potato that we will one day eat that relies less on inputs to grow. We will meet for dinner at the Great Dane at Hilldale at 6pm and then proceed to the greenhouses for a tour around 7pm.
